Paul Gascoigne bailed after arrest for drug offence

Paul Gascoigne was released on bail yesterday after having been arrested for drugs offences.

The 43-year-old spent the night in police custody on suspicion of possessing a class A substance. His arrest came just days after the troubled former Rangers and England star was warned at Newcastle Magistrates' Court that he faced jail when he admitted drink-driving.

Gascoigne was held at a house in Burradon, North Tyneside, but has not been charged.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "At shortly after 5:30pm on Thursday, police attended a property in North Tyneside.

"A 43-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug. A second man, aged 43, was later arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs."

Both are due to answer bail in January.
