Passengers get fly tips

EDINBURGH Airport spent £15,000 recycling items seized from passengers at security control last year, it has confirmed.

Airport bosses have launched a new campaign to explain to passengers that spending a little time on preparation before setting off on their trip can actually save them time at security and prevent unnecessary waste.

Some of the more common but unusual items surrendered at security checkpoints included snow globes, jams and toy guns.

Kevin Brown, Edinburgh Airport's managing director, said: "Last year, we disposed of 21.7 tonnes of discarded items - the weight of an average fighter jet."
