Partially-sighted runner seeks guide for marathon

a PARTIALLY-SIGHTED runner is looking for a guide to help him complete the Edinburgh Marathon on May 22.

Shaun Marshall expects to complete the race in around three hours and 50 minutes and hopes to find someone to run with him. Mr Marshall, who has tunnel vision and is very long-sighted, said he particularly needed a guide for the opening section of the race when the course is very crowded.

He has trained for the event by running on treadmills, on cycle paths, and by going out to run very early in the morning when there is little traffic. He said: "Although I'm reasonably blind, I don't have a stick. I'd just run next to the guide for them to maybe duck in and get water at water stations, and if there are any obstacles to just point them out."

Mr Marshall is raising funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind.
