Parking ‘made blaze worse’

A MAJOR fire in a historic row of houses highlights the importance of responsible parking, campaigners have said.

The blaze in the Shandon colonies in August, was made worse by the fact fire engines struggled to access the property.

Local campaigner and Green party member Gavin Corbett said: “No-one is claiming the terrible fire would have been prevented simply by better parking.

“But it has acted as a wake-up call for the area. There are simply too many vehicles competing for too little space.

“We need to look for solutions that make the fairest and safest use of the limited space.”
