Parking changes rolled out

Parking machines in the Capital will no longer accept small change from Sunday onwards.

The Evening News revealed in September that the city council planned to phase out 5p and 10p coins from its machines.

The changes, being introduced as a result of changes to the width of these coins, will be operational from New Year’s Day.

Gordon Mackenzie, the city’s transport leader, said: “The price of parking per hour will remain the same but paying £360,000 to change all our machines made no sense. I recognise the inconvenience this may cause, but it’s the better option for drivers and taxpayers in general.”
