Park strife at the City Chambers as protesters fight sell-off plans

PROTESTERS fighting plans to sell off a council depot next to Inverleith Park have presented their petition to councillors in the City Chambers. Carola Gordon was among more than 8000 people who signed the petition against proposals to sell of a depot on the edge of the park to a housing developer.

Tony Cook, convener of Friends of Inverleith Park, presented the petition to Lord Provost George Grubb in the City Chambers yesterday. And he called on councillors not to allow the sale to go ahead.

A joint motion by Inverleith councillors Iain Whyte and Lesley Hinds was approved calling on Dave Anderson, the council's director of city development, to report on the current position regarding plans to sell the site, the planning status of the land and details of any community consultation taken or planned on the sale.
