Parents urged to ensure kids are exercising

PARENTS across the Lothians have been urged to help ensure their children get at least an hour of exercise every day.

The Scottish Government wants to improve activity levels in youngsters as part of its Take Life On initiative.

The drive comes after a survey found the vast majority of children in Scotland do not achieve this target.

It is hoped by driving the message through parents will become more involved in getting their children off the couch.

Public health minister Shona Robison said: “One of the most fundamental health challenges facing our nation is convincing young people to spend more time taking part in physical activity.

“This year’s Take Life On campaign highlights to parents simple changes they can make to their children’s life to get them increasingly active and reduce the likelihood of illness later in life.”
