Parents urge job support for families

CHARITIES have presented a manifesto to MSPs calling for policies to help secure a solid future for Scottish families.

Ideas include a family-friendly kitemark for employers, modelled on the existing Investors in People award, to recognise flexible working and other pro-family policies.

Parenting Across Scotland, a partnership of high-profile charities offering support to children and families, claims flourishing families are the basis for economic recovery.

Project manager Clare Simpson said: "Parents need help throughout the ages and stages of children's lives.

"The public, private and the voluntary sector all have a role to play and that's why we're keen to see a government- recognised stamp of approval for good employers.

"A family-friendly environment means happier and more productive staff.
