Parents set for fresh fight to save nurseries

PARENTS are gearing up to fight plans to close two city nurseries.

The Evening News revealed yesterday that education chiefs want to close High School Yards, just off the Cowgate, and Prestonfield's Princess Elizabeth Nursery in a bid to save 200,000 a year.

Affected parents who have fought previous closure attempts say they will not let that happen without another fight.

Nicola Harkins, whose four-year-old son Shaun attends Princess Elizabeth, described the council's proposal as disgraceful. Kerry Robb, whose granddaughter Nicole, four, also attends Princess Elizabeth, was part of a campaign to save the nursery almost 30 years ago when her own children attended and has vowed to fight again.
