Paramedic 'refused' to go to 999 call

A TRAINEE paramedic from West Lothian has been suspended while an investigation is carried out into claims she refused to attend a 999 call to a dying baby, it was reported today.

The 28-year-old, who was alone as her partner failed to turn up for work, reportedly refused the order from control room staff.

Two other crews attended the incident in Stirlingshire within seven minutes but it is thought that the baby died at the scene. One source claimed the trainee panicked as she was on her own in the ambulance.

The Scottish Ambulance Service is investigating the claims, along with the fact that BT initially routed the emergency call to England by mistake.

An ambulance spokesman defended the trainee and said it was normal to suspend a member of staff to allow an investigation to be carried out.
