Parachute team set for final jump

THE final jump by Army parachute team The Golden Lions will be made at the National Museum of Flight between noon and 2pm on Sunday. As the News revealed earlier this month, the team, which is based at Redford Barracks in Colinton, is being disbanded after 40 years as a result of defence cuts.

The team will unfurl a Scottish flag as they descend over the museum at East Fortune, East Lothian. After landing they will chat to spectators and hand over items of equipment to the museum for its collection. Museum general manager Grant MacKenzie said: "The team has a rich history and their golden parachutes were always a popular sight at any event. We hope lots of people will come along on 27 March to see their final appearance."

In the event of poor weather, the team will still attend and speak to visitors on the ground.
