Paisley woman in 'terrifying' slash attack

A WOMAN recovering from an operation was indecently assaulted and slashed on the face in a "terrifying" daylight ordeal.

The 46-year-old was set upon when she stopped to tie her shoelace during a walk in Paisley's Barshaw Park.

The victim, who is in a stable condition in hospital, is said to be "extremely shaken" by the ordeal, in which she was also thrown to the ground and hit.

Strathclyde Police said they are working "round the clock" to trace the culprit behind the attack, which happened at around 3:30pm on Thursday.

Detectives said the suspect pounced on the woman from behind.

He then threw her on to the ground, punched her and slashed her before fleeing towards Glasgow Road.

The victim managed to make her way to a shop to get help and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Meanwhile, Central Scotland Police are investigating an indecent assault on an 18-year-old woman in Stirling.

The attack happened on Causewayhead Road around 6am on Sunday 16 January.

The male suspect is said to be about 40 years old, slim, 5ft 9in, with short dark hair and wearing dark clothing.
