But they fell out with him at the get together and followed Mr Wilson when he left to go home.

The duo then pounced on Mr Wilson and repeatedly punched and kicked him on the head and body to his severe injury.

They also knocked their victim to the ground and threw a glass at him.

Stelloo then took a packet of cigarettes from Mr Wilson as he lay on the ground suffering from his injuries.

The two men were arrested shortly after the assault.

The story emerged on Thursday following a hearing at the court before Sheriff Frank Crowe.

Both men pleaded guilty to assault and robbery charges. Stelloo also pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in connection with the case in November 2014.

Sheriff Crowe deferred sentence for the court to obtain reports.

They will be sentenced for the offences at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on April 22 2015.
