Pair arrested in Broxburn copper theft

Three men in West Lothian have been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged theft of copper as part of an ongoing operation to tackle metal thefts.

Officers on patrol at the Greendykes Industrial Estate in Broxburn came across cutting tools and found the ground had been damaged to remove copper wiring.

The men, aged 43, 43 and 46, who were arrested and charged, are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Operation Adamant is a force-wide crackdown on the theft of valuable metals and also seeks to also provide advice to homeowners and businesses to avoid the theft of metal and plant equipment.

A police spokesman said: "As part of our prevention strategy, vulnerable areas where metal is stored or furnished will be identified and the appropriate advice given to ensure our communities can protect themselves against thefts."
