Paddle boats make splash on the Forth

TWO dragon boats will be brought from the Lake District for an event on the Forth this weekend.

The spectacle is to raise money for local charity Paddlers For Life, which wants to buy vessels of its own to allow breast cancer patients to stay active.

Its sister charity in Windermere will travel up on Saturday, and it is hoped there will be a good turnout at South Queensferry for the fundraiser.

The charity, founded by Bonnyrigg woman and breast cancer patient Andrina Gordon, aims to generate enough cash to start a fleet of its own. That, Ms Gordon said, would allow regular races to be staged and act as social and fitness events for patients.

She said: "We're fortunate that two boats are coming up from Lake Windermere.

"Hopefully, we can get some interest and raise some awareness.

"We are applying for grants and have had donations from the Rotary for our own boats."

Saturday's demonstration races take place at 10am and 12.30pm. For more information phone Ms Gordon on 07824429129 or visit www.paddlersforlifescotlandse.co.uk.
