Oxfam gift designed to keep giving

A MAJOR UK charity is launching a Christmas gift range aimed at encouraging a new breed of young philanthropists.

The Oxfam Unwrapped collection offers the chance to buy essentials for people in need instead of ordinary presents.

Now the range includes gifts for youngsters, such as educating a child, or a simple desk and chair set.

Rick Lay, Oxfam Unwrapped manager, said: "There are children living in poverty all over the world who benefit hugely from these gifts. Something as simple as playtime can help teach them about health through games and songs, while desk and chair sets give them access to education which can change their lives forever."

Jean Gross, who led the development of a national programme to improve social and emotional skills among children, added: "Encouraging empathy and compassion in children builds social and emotional awareness skills."
