Owner gave dying puppy kiss of life

A DISTRAUGHT dog owner gave her dying puppy the kiss of life in a desperate bid to save its life, a court has heard.

Mary Zurinskas told how she ran almost a mile cradling the dog in an attempt to get a vet.

At Livingston Sheriff Court yesterday, she was found not guilty of ill-treating the 15-week-old bullmastiff cross called Blaze.

Ms Zurinskas, 39, of Livingston, denied causing the dog unnecessary suffering and failing to provide it with necessary veterinary attention on March 17, 2010.

Pc Richard Morris, 33, told the trial that he found Ms Zurinskas in tears trying to resuscitate her dying dog outside Tesco in Bathgate.

He said: “She was extremely distressed. She was hysterical and crying.”

Outside court, Ms Zurinskas said she was relieved that the case was over. She said: “It was a blooming liberty that I was charged in the first place.”
