8 YEARS cut to 4 years 8 months: Former minibus driver David Swan, 45, who used to live in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, raped a girl at houses in Livingston and Armadale, in West Lothian.

He first began abusing the child when she was aged 10. After the abuse came to light police searched a house in Forres, in Moray, where he was living and found a cache of child pornography on a computer.

The appeal judges reduced his punishment part of the OLR imposed on him to four years and eight months.

4 years 2 months cut to 3 years: Former supermarket worker Ryan Sutherland, 30, who dragged a 16-year-old girl into woods before attempting to rape her, had his punishment part reduced.

Sutherland, formerly of Dunfermline, assaulted the girl in his home town in an attack described by the sentencing judge Lady Stacey as being as “terrifying” for the victim.

7 years cut to 4 years: Convicted rapist Ryan Smith (28) was originally told he would serve a minimum of seven years in prison in 2009 but it was cut on appeal to four years.

Smith dragged a 16-year-old girl back to his flat in Whitson, in Edinburgh, and subjected her to a seven-hour ordeal.
