Organised crime 'internet-savvy'

The country's most senior policeman has warned that organised crime gangs are increasingly turning to the internet.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson said: "The modern Tony Soprano-style crime lord will have a cyber-expert on hand." He warned of the risk of losing IT specialists in order to keep officers on the beat. His comments come after his force last week charged 11 eastern Europeans over theft from UK online bank accounts.
