Organ scanner unveiled at last

A £2MILLION scanner that can analyse body organs in less than a second was yesterday unveiled in Edinburgh.

The device was donated by Royal Bank of Scotland after a major row last year over its use: bank staff were previously to be given priority on the machine.

After the issue was raised by Lothians MSP Margo MacDonald, the device will now be available to all NHS patients.

RBS Group chairman Philip Hampton said: "When we were approached by Margo McDonald MSP last year, asking us to donate the scanner fully for use by NHS Lothian, it seemed an eminently sensible thing to do.

"This donation demonstrates our commitment to rebuilding trust and respect in our business and is an example of how we are changing the way we do things at RBS."
