Order breach paedophile is 'serious risk'

A CONVICTED paedophile who breached his prevention order within an hour and a half of leaving the police station has been jailed for four years.

Sheriff Kenneth Maciver told Garry Alexander, 36, that he was in "absolutely no doubt" that he was a serious risk to the community.

Alexander was previously jailed for eight years at the High Court for an offence against a child and was subject to an interim sexual offences prevention order. This prohibited him from entering any place where children were likely to be, including parks and swimming pools.

The order was served on him on November 8 last year and, on November 11 he met with police officers to be advised exactly what he could and could not do.

Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard Alexander told officers he had a dog but had never taken it to the park and had no plans to do so. Later that day he was caught at the park by police.

Sheriff Maciver told Alexander it was "crystal clear" what the terms of the order were. He said: "I have to tell you there is absolutely no doubt about the imposition of a custodial sentence. There is clearly a need for the public to be protected from you."

Alexander, of Edinburgh Prison, pled guilty to breaching his prevention order.
