Zero promises

SCOTTISH Labour continually promises to ban zero-hours contracts and always includes the phrase “and to ensure that those working regular hours have the right to a regular contract”.

But isn’t the nature of zero-hours contracts that people do not get regular hours? So what is the actual promise?

If Labour really wants to help working people surely a better way would be to repeal Thatcher’s union laws, encourage mass union membership and re-instate collective bargaining on pay.

The minimum wage ought only to be a starting point and not the best ordinary workers can ever aspire to.
