Youth vote

Today young people in Scotland will have a unique chance to take control of their future for the next five years.

With the election so close-fought in virtually every seat in the UK, their vote can make a real difference.

Since the economic downturn young people have experienced much higher unemployment. With many still struggling to get onto the first rung of the employment ladder, it’s particularly important that their voices are heard.

During the last UK general election, most young people didn’t vote – in fact only 44 per cent went to the booth.

Last year’s independence referendum saw a huge turnout of young people, including 16- and 17-year-olds, of whom 109,593 registered to vote, and 18- to 24 -year-olds.

By coming out to vote again in the UK election young people can make a massive impact on the result.
