Glasgow's miles better in terms of NHS funding, Capital wage rises beat the rest of UK and Princes Street is in the dark

Health chiefs in the west have 440 more per head of population to spend than those in the Lothians.

People who remain well could have nothing spent on them. People who are ill could have tens of thousands spent on them. And whether or not people are well or ill, NHS Lothian will spend large sums on keeping hospitals and services running. It is absolutely right that funding for health boards is decided on the basis of the prevalence of illness, the siting of hospitals, and the cost of providing services. The idea that it should be based simply on the number of people is ludicrous.

I'm surprised the folk of Scotland are standing for all this. Time for Glasgow to seek independence from Scotland and stand on its own feet?

Front Street

Can't we just privatise Glasgow and sell it to Ireland?

The amounts quoted are per head of population in each region. It stands to reason if you have more unhealthy people in a region there will be more spent.

Surely the funding for the NHS should be based on need, not population. If you are sick you have money spent on you if you are not you don't.

Still, looking on the bright side, at least the average wage increase in the Capital is rising quicker than the rest of the UK.

Some folk are very lucky to be getting a wage rise at all. This will be my fourth year without a wage increase.

Why are the usual estate agents not trundled out for this report to tell us that average house prices of 200k in a city where the average salary is 26k is unsustainable and insane?

We are home to CEC and the Scottish Parliament – guess that accounts for all the pay rises then.

Edinburgh's figures are high because of non-productive jobs in finance and law. At least Aberdeen produces something useful to justify its place.

Perhaps those with a wage rise could chip in to replace the 39 streetlights not working on Princes Street, as spotted by David Rintoul.

Good for you, David. How is it that council staff never seem to spot defects in the infrastructure and make arrangements within their department for things to be fixed. Why does it always seem to fall to the public to report things?

Now what was the problem of instigating street lighting along the middle of the road, someone has even put up a whole row of gigantic lamp posts along there. I'm sure a use could be found for them.

Four years ago come April I reported via Clarence that all the uplighters on either side of the North Bridge were out of order. Three years ago I did likewise and the result? Still out.

The Non-Working Light Disease is spreading from buildings to the roads; look at the number of 'cyclops' vehicles on the roads with only one light working. Maybe David can count them and ask the traffic police to do something about it!

This geezer really does need to get out more!
