Deselected MP Anne Moffat retires, the smoking ban could go further to include all public spaces and a clock crosses the road

You have no sympathy for MP Anne Moffat who is retiring due to ill health after being ousted by her local Labour party

I wonder how many of us could claim we wanted our job so badly we would 'fight' to keep it, then when we are effectively sacked we are allowed to retire on ill health after...what....9 years service on a pension of 25-30,000? Nice work if you can get it.

How can anyone in Scotland vote Labour given the disgrace of their MPs at Livingston and East Lothian, not to mention the Purcell saga in Glasgow?

People should recognise that it was the Labour Party who selected these people as the best that Labour had to represent these Scottish constituencies – the sad fact is that they probably were.

She's had ill health retirement wrapped up since last year!!?? How's that for being honest with your party, but more importantly, the voters? And 30 grand pension for 9 years work!? My snout is definitely in the wrong trough!

You are united in your condemnation of taking the smoking ban a step further by banning it in all public places, including parks

If this is ever extended, I recommend all smokers take a stand and ignore the extra measures – no, in fact, ignore the whole thing. What would they do about it if all smokers simply exercised their legitimate right to light up? We have PAID for the right to smoke.

A smoker driving in their own car with no passengers should be allowed to smoke if they wish. The only person's health affected is their own. For those who would argue the act of lighting a cigarette is in itself a distraction, then maybe changing radio stations, putting on sunglasses or even sneezing should also be banned. However, anyone travelling in a car with a child should refrain from exposing the child to cigarette smoke. That should apply to any non-smoking passengers.

If passive smoking is having such a detrimental effect, most over-50s should be dying of smoking-related diseases contracted in their youth when smoking was far more prevalent.

Oh yes, let's ban smoking! I'm sure the 8 billion in tax revenue currently obtained from tobacco products can easily be replaced from, er, somewhere or other.

If passive smoking exists then all publicans should be dead.

The Clock Bell Tower on Lothian Road has been moved to the other side of the street to lessen the disturbance during concerts at the Usher Hall

I noticed this the other day. They've put it in front of Steve Cardownie's big TV. If you sit on the nice red polished marble flowerbed/seat things all you can see is a bell tower. Great planning!

It would have been better if they'd placed it somewhere that obscured the monstrous shower cubicle that they've built on the side of the Usher Hall.

Luckily there are no overhead tram wires on Lothian Road which would have made this job impossible.
