Yes vote will help poorest children

WITH all due respect to them, I do not think that either the Child Poverty Action Group’s John Dickie or the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s Jim McCormick get it, as regards the outcome of the referendum and the prospects of tackling poverty in Scotland (“100,000 Scots children face poverty in 2020”, News, 2 February).

So long as Conservative Party governments continue to be elected at Westminster, any progress made in tackling child poverty will never be sustained for long. The Labour Party will do their best each time they hold power, but
tragically within only a short period of a Conservative prime minister once more being elected child poverty levels will start to rise. Those of Scotland’s children who live in
poverty need us adults to vote Yes later on this year.
