Wrong number

The proposal that smartphones be introduced as a teaching tool in schools and colleges is wrongheaded (Letters, 1 January).

It will only make those pupils and students who don’t have one feel ­excluded, and envious. You also don’t learn how to talk to people and treat them as equals by being glued to a smartphone all day.
