Wrong club

I was horrified to discover that the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St Andrews – the home of golf – does not allow women to be members (your report, 15 May) in 2013.

Good on Catriona Matthew for arguing that the  policy should be scrapped but if I was a woman I wouldn’t even want to go anywhere near a place with such a ridiculous, outdated  attitude.

And to think I believed golf in Scotland was free of the weird stuffiness so prevalent in English clubs.
