Wrong attack

Alexander Mackay's attack on Billy Wolfe (Letters, 22 March), who passed away last week, was unacceptable and completely wrong, both in timing and in fact.

While his favoured New Labour leaders like Blair and Brown refuse to apologise for anything, Billy had had the decency to apologise many years ago for his anti-Pope remarks, which he deeply regretted.

Indeed, he went on to marry a Catholic.

Perhaps Mr Mackay should apologise in the manner of Nicola Sturgeon.
