Wrong agenda

Allan Massie (Perspective, 8 April) calls attention to the
lack of debate amongst politicians “about foreign affairs and policy”.

Seemingly, another issue not noticeably up for discussion is the call for a UK federal state, meaning full powers for four parliaments in a federal political system excluding defence and foreign affairs.

It appears most of our politicians are uncomfortable even raising the important topic of constitutional politics. Are we really a muddling-through nation that prefers our policies on the backs of envelopes?

Stemming from this is the confusion many voters still have over the leaders’ areas of competence. Time and again from the 19th century politicians have failed to grasp the nettle of federalism.

Arguably, the politics of the constitution should be high on the agenda of the 2015 election.
