Without equal

Carolyn Leckie is right to emphasise that Scotland’s women have some way to go to achieve equality, but it was difficult to follow her attempt to link this with the independence referendum vote in her article (Perspective, 1 March).

Asserting that Westminster “ruthlessly” reinforces disempowerment needed detailed explanation. How she came to the conclusion that Mr Salmond is depicted by No campaigners as aiming for a 1984 dictatorship also needs fleshing out.

How Ms Leckie would get women “bursting with ideas” to get those ideas (whatever they are) into Holyrood for consideration needs explanation – women are well-represented at Holyrood so there seems to be a direct route already.

Let’s hear more about why No votes let women down and why voting Yes doesn’t.
