Wind farms

Tessa Packard (Letters, 7 June) is correct both emotionally and intellectually in her reaction to wind farm developments in the Lammermuirs.

At 10am on 7 June, the production of electricity from all the array of wind turbines in the UK (2,800, 1,186 of which are in Scotland) was just 4 megawatts of power. In the previous 24 hours only one-tenth of 1 per cent of UK electricity was produced by wind.

Even another 10,000 turbines would make no inroads into the budget.

The only guaranteed budgets that benefit from wind farms are those of landowners and developers. Budget cutbacks are long overdue.
