Wind farm woes

It seems the Commonwealth Games and the referendum have been good times for the government to bury bad news.

Westminster is painted as the big bad wolf, but I would hazard a guess Westminster would never dare to overrule two locally elected Scottish councils and ignore 5,000 objections as this Scottish Government has done at the appeal for Dersalloch Wind Farm near Dalmellington.

Anyone who has driven around Abington and its forests of turbines will be horrified the Scottish Government has also granted another extension there.

What is so curious is that all this has been done at a time when we don’t know who is going to pay the subsidies for the next 25 years.

At the moment, 92 per cent of this particular bill is paid by the rest of the UK. If independent, Scotland would have to foot the whole subsidy for more than 60 per cent of the turbines in Britain which are on Scottish soil.

Scottish landowners may be rubbing their hands with glee, but what about the rest of us who have to pay the subsidies and witness the destruction of our precious landscape?

As this matter is devolved, 
I despair – whether Scotland is ­independent or not.
