Wheel problem

I HAVE recently read with some concern anti-cyclist opinion
carried in your Letters page which offers no particular constructive answer to the problem of safe, shared use of the public highway between motorists and cyclists. In one instance the writer referred to cyclists as lycra queens, which sums up many motorists’ attitude of cyclists.

There is no question that many cyclists break the road traffic regulations and I have witnessed a number doing so with passing police taking no notice.

The answer must be better law enforcement.

I cycle, and also drive, and daily see motorists breaking the road traffic laws by using mobile phones, driving well over the speed limit and carelessly driving by turning left across cyclists, passing very closely to them.

We must remember motorists are encased in a metal shell and cyclists only in a polystyrene helmet at best.
