What sense?

I have become increasingly frustrated at the vociferous anti health and safety views in relation to the cancelled Lake of Monteith curling Bonspiel. These views, which appear to push for a "let's do what we like and hell mend the advice of the people who are responsible for ensuring a safe event" ignore the fact that the concerns of the authorities had more to do with general safety, including access, than the thickness of the ice.

It's easy for those with no responsibility to advocate everyone taking responsibility for themselves and signing disclaimers, but the emergency services would still have to respond and put themselves at risk.

Your editorial (14 January) claims the public should be allowed to practise "common sense". In the same edition you report that two so-called adults decided to drive a car along a frozen canal. Common sense, where is it?
