We need the Beeb

Anyone who needs convincing why we should protect the BBC far more than we currently do (your report, 7 October) should take the following test: name a broadcasting organisation anywhere in the world (aside from the BBC) that has the vision, editorial genius and freedom from toxic commercial constraints to give over the last five minutes of a primetime radio news programme (Radio 4’s PM) to an excerpt from a highly inspirational and deeply moving speech by the late Steve Jobs.

No, I can’t think of one either.
