Water failures

Helen Lennox of Scottish Water (Letters, 10 July)
studiously ignored the point I made: that it was wrong for Scottish Water directors to be getting obscene bonuses when workers in the public sector have had their salaries frozen.

Ms Lennox may not like to be reminded of the major strategic failure of the water supply in Blair Atholl, where a new
system, installed in 2007, had to be replaced in 2011 because 95 per cent of the pipes were not laid to the regulation depth.

The water supply in Letham and Tomintoul was declared unfit for human consumption and a large fine was imposed on Scottish Water – or, rather, us as consumers.

Regardless of this, senior management were still receiving six-figure bonuses.
