It was interesting to see your photo (4 August) of the New Zealand Army Band performing the Haka on the former Royal Yacht Britannia with EIIR emblazoned on the uniforms.

James Cook's voyage reached New Zealand in 1769 and the British Crown did not claim sovereignty until the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 - long after the reign of Elizabeth I. As the late, great Hamish Imlach sang: "For ye canny hae a second Liz, whan the first yin's never been."
