Vote questions

Ken Gow’s observations (Letters, 15 April) on the ignorance of the UK establishment raises interesting issues in my mind about the behaviour of the franchised and disenfranchised in the forthcoming referendum.

I have just completed a
five-day visit to Scotland staying with “British” friends who have lived in the same town in
Scotland for 40 years. They and their family will vote No.

How many of the 5.3 million people in Scotland are enfranchised and how many of them are “British” and how many of them would vote No because they do not want to be separated from England?

I have Scottish friends who have lived in England for 40 years and if they were enfranchised would vote No because they do not want to be separated from Scotland. Do these asymmetries point to an illegitimate referendum?
