Verging on filthy

I refer to David Roche's letter (23 March) about litter on the A90 between Cramond and the Forth Road Bridge. He may be interested to know I sent an e-mail to the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, George Grubb, who represents the ward in which this stretch of road lies. I simply received a reply advising that the matter had been passed to the appropriate department.

On a similar matter, I have e-mailed Stewart Stevenson MSP and Minister for Transport, with a copy to Jim Mather MSP, Minister for Tourism, about the amount of litter and general detritus on the verges of the M8. Despite four e-mails to them I have not had a reply so this confirms to me that these people have little understanding of the impact that this problem has on both residents of and visitors to Scotland.

Much of the litter you see on roadsides is left by workmen: items such as traffic cones, discarded traffic signs and the like, so much of the blame lies with those contractors being uninterested in clearing up after completing their job.
