Veg and fruit fool

I was interested to see that Iain WD Forde (Letters, 7 April) gave three reactions to the recommendation to eat seven items of fruit and vegetables a day, as opposed to the previously recommended five, all of which are reasonable responses.

However, none of these was my reaction when I read said article, which did appear in your newspaper on 1 April. I immediately thought it must be an April Fool.

Who on Earth would give a team of researchers funding simply to come up with a slightly different number?

I know it pales into insignificance compared with the amount of money wasted on the trams and the parliament building, but still.
