University divide

The fact that "students from rich families are seven times more likely to go to top university" (your report, 19 May) does not indicate a problem unless it can be demonstrated that the intellectual capacity to get in to a "top university" is actually more evenly distributed across income groups. When poorer students make it to a "top university" they tend to become richer parents who tend to transmit their clever genes to their more privileged offspring, and so
