Unhealthy idea

The news that GP practices in England are set to gain yet more power will hopefully not be a trail for Scotland to follow.

GPs gained huge size pay rises in a recent new contract which gave them a virtual five-day working week with evenings and weekends off, even though health is a 24-hour matter.

No doubt, even in this climate of cut-backs and potential hard times for many, GPs in England will now demand more money for running their businesses, rather than being family doctors focusing on patients as they have done successfully over many years.

Our doctors should be paid a salary for their medical skills and not be continuously involved in business development developing more profits.
