Unfair tax

JEFF Salway may have intended it as a throwaway comment when he said “accountants may be happy about it” in reference to child benefit changes (Smart Money, 3 November). However, accountants across the country have been objecting strenuously to this tax through a variety of forums.

This tax is complex, unfair and risks serious harm to delicate extended-family relationships. Combined tax and national insurance bands of more than 73 per cent for an individual with four or more children are not good for the economy as overtime will be refused and unpaid leave taken.

This is an entirely politician-driven tax and I sincerely hope that common sense kicks in
very soon.
