Under one roof

Shelter’s Graeme Brown (Letters, 2 October) highlights “the heightened political focus on the need to build more affordable homes”.

We entirely agree that this is encouraging, but the “major
social crisis” he describes actually engulfs all tenures.

This issue is starkly illustrated by the fact that Scotland’s private sector housing production has fallen by more than 50 per cent since 2007, with annual output having now dropped below 10,000 for the first time in more than 40 years.

With the delivery of much
affordable housing directly tied to private sector development, ways must be found of meeting the housing needs and aspirations of all Scots.
