Allan Massie’s assertion (Perspective, 16 October) that BBC Scotland spends £17 million – a sum he says equates to 30 per cent of our annual programme budget – on BBC Alba simply isn’t true.

For the record, BBC Scotland contributes around £4m towards the £14m annual content budget of BBC Alba, with our partners MG Alba funding the balance.

That annual budget provides a multi-genre TV channel that is extremely popular with its audience of both Gaelic and non-Gaelic speakers.
