Troubled Lib Dems

In his New Year Message, Secretary of State for Scotland Alistair Carmichael talked about Scotland moving on from the referendum, pleading with Yes voters to accept the result, calling for unity in Scotland. His message went on to castigate the SNP’s economic proposals for an independent Scotland in light of the falling oil price.

A wee New Year message for Alistair Carmichael: Scotland has moved on and is moving on.

For the first time in decades the people of Scotland have become engaged in politics, a situation I am sure gives the Lib Dems plenty to worry about, and as opinion polls tell us, the Lib Dems are going on a wilderness walk in 2015.

Mr Carmichael, in his capacity as part of the Coalition Government, really should have examined himself before criticising the SNP’s economic proposals. Correct me if I am wrong, but do we not have an eye-watering £1.36 trillion of debt in this country – that is, more than £21,000 for every person in the country!

Falling oil prices have unionist politicians pointing fingers at the SNP. Perhaps the real and worrying story for Mr Carmichael and his coalition colleagues should be the fall in income to the Westminster exchequer from
Scotland’s oil.
