Trident’s future

I don’t think Dr McCormick need worry about the future of Trident/Faslane in relation to the referendum (Letters, 1 September).

It seems to be generally agreed removal would require some years to arrange and by then there will have been at least one election in Scotland, giving him and other like-minded voters the chance to elect a pro-nuclear government.

The SNP’s current policies cannot determine what subsequent governments will do.

Of course, by then the Westminster Government coming in next year may well have decided, because of financial constraints, doubts as to its military worth or whatever, that Trident should be scrapped.
