Transport ideas

I have recently returned from a visit to western Canada and was greatly impressed with some of the public transport arrangements in the cities I visited. In Calgary, Alberta, the authorities have run the electric trains right through the city along one of the main east to west streets in the grid pattern of the city centre.

Along a distance similar to Princes Street from Shandwick Place to the East End there are at least seven stops and along this stretch travelling on the train is free. Now there is some food for thought for the Edinburgh tram operators and the hard-pressed businesses in the city centre.
