Traffic warnings

I can’t let Labour’s Councillor Lesley Hinds get away with the utter rubbish about lack of communication she spouted in your article, “Rush hour gridlock looms” (26 March).

There was a major publicity drive in advance of the traffic changes; warning signs went up on approach roads many weeks ago. Local residents and businesses were also contacted well in advance, as were councillors, including Councillor Hinds.

Several newspapers covered the forthcoming works in the past week and over the weekend there was extensive coverage on travel bulletins across the airwaves and via the internet.

I’m pleased to say there was no gridlock on Monday or Tuesday morning. Delays were less than the ten minutes traffic planners had estimated.

Hopefully that will be true going forward. I want to place on record my thanks to The Scotsman and other media for their support and to travellers for taking heed of the advice they were given.
